Energy saving measures for urban road lighting

Urban road lighting is not always as bright as possible

The design of road lighting should first achieve a reasonable selection of lighting standard values. The driving effect on the economy is reasonable urban lighting, and energy-saving does not mean lowering the lighting standards without turning on the lights. The contradiction between economic development and energy conservation is not irreconcilable. Road lighting is actually not necessary. Many people believe that the brighter the light, the better. The main purpose of road lighting is to provide excellent visual conditions for locomotive drivers, so that they can detect obstacles within the range of 60 to 160 meters ahead on time. Generally, the illumination level requires 30 lux (asphalt silicon pavement), which is sufficient.

Reasonable selection of lighting fixtures and regular maintenance

Improving the utilization of light and avoiding glare, distributing the luminous flux of the light source to the desired direction, is the main function of the lamp. Generally, lamps with higher efficiency use materials with high reflectivity and better manufacturing processes, such as high-purity aluminum plates with electrochemical polishing; Protective covers with good light transmittance, such as transparent glass or organic glass; Furthermore, it has good sealing performance, can be waterproof and dustproof, and minimize the loss of light as much as possible.

Midnight light control mode

At present, the energy-saving method of turning off half of the light sources at midnight (turning off street lights across lamps) is adopted by most cities. During the energy-saving operation period, the energy-saving rate has reached 50%, and the overall rate is about 30%. This approach not only achieves the goal of energy conservation, but also leads to uneven distribution of road brightness, posing a safety hazard to traffic safety. The midnight light control method is a relatively reasonable control method: road lighting can be reduced by one level standard in sections with fewer people and vehicles in the second half of the night, that is, main roads and expressways are executed according to the standards of secondary roads, secondary roads are executed according to the standards of branch roads, and branch roads are executed according to about 70% of the original standards. In the first half of the night, the level and evenness of road illumination are determined according to the actual road level requirements.

Reduce the loss of lighting components and circuits

Gas discharge lamps are most of the street lamps we currently use and require ballasts. Reducing the power loss of the ballast is also an aspect of energy-saving work that cannot be ignored. For example, the power loss of a 250W sodium lamp ballast with good quality is only 20-25 watts, while the power loss of a poor quality can reach around 40 watts. Inductive ballasts have the characteristics of good impedance stability and volt ampere performance, high power factor, and low power loss, in order to stabilize the working current of the bulb and extend its service life.
